At the Auditorio Municipal in Tampico, Mexico, Isidro “Samurai” Curiel won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-America Super Lightweight title on Mexican Independence Day, Saturday September 16.

Curiel defeated tough-as-nails fellow countryman Hector Colin by unanimous decision in the main event of a show promoted by Mad Tiger Promotions.

This was the local man's third fight since returning to the ring last December after a three-year break, and he boxed excellently on his way to a clear victory.

Judges Crescencio Zavala Hernandez, Esteban Espino Gonzalez and Marciano Alvarez Pchardo scored the fight 98-92, 99-91 and 100-90 respectively.

The fight never developed into the war it was expected to be, but it was entertaining and had its moments of high-paced action where the fighters stood in front of each other and traded.

Curiel was the better man and never really allowed Colin into the fight for more than brief spells, putting on a disciplined performance from start to finish.

Now 15-2-1 (8), Curiel will be looking to continue the momentum of his comeback, hoping to eventually challenge for the UBO world title next year.

Colin drops to 10-23 (9), but can be pleased with his game effort and showed that his record is very deceiving.
