But as the
third was about to begin, the corner of Kayage
informed the referee that their fighter had
injured her left hand and would not be able to
continue. Lukas got the early finish she wanted,
but not the way she had hoped.
The
unfortunate ending should not take anything away
from the accomplishment of Lukas, who stepped up
and defeated a much more experienced opponent in
Kayage, now 10-10-4 (3), to become world champion
in only her third pro fight.
Improving
to 3-0 (2), Lukas thanked the people of Almaty and
all of Kazakhstan for their support. Having won
the UBO International title at Bantamweight in
October, it has been a very rewarding last quarter
of the year for her.
