In the main event of an afternoon show promoted by Granite Chin Promotions at the New England Sports Center in Derry, New Hampshire, Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-America Welterweight Champion Brandon Berry made a successful first defense of his title.

Facing a very tough and game challenger in Gael Ibarra, who just turned eighteen years old a week before, “The Cannon” (33) didn't have an easy time, but showed that patience and experience is a very valuable asset.

Riding a five-fight winning-streak, Ibarra entered his first title fight full of confidence and in periods more than held his own, especially when he forced Berry to the ropes and fired off hard combinations to both body and head.

But Berry always weathered the storm before coming back with his own attacks, and it was a spirited and entertaining fight with plenty of back and forth which appeared all even after four rounds.

However, in the fifth Berry hurt Ibarra with a right hand and seized his moment as he followed up and landed several clean shots.

Overwhelmed, Ibarra didn't throw anything back and referee Leo Gerstel stepped in to save him, waving it off at 1:29 of the round.

With his eighth straight victory, West Forks, Maine´s Berry improved his professional record to 21-5-2 (14), and has completely resurrected his career after losing three out of five fights back in 2018.

Gael Ibarra falls to 5-3 (4), but can hold his head high as he more than proved that he has a future in the sport if brought along in the right way. Youth is certainly on his side.
