On Saturday December 19, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Puma Toguchi Boxing presented a Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) championship double-header at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino.

At Middleweight, partly Dominican-based Japanese veteran Masayuki “Cobra” Suwa won the vacant UBO Caribbean Middleweight title, when he defeated Dominican Edward Diaz by sixth round technical knockout.

A former WBC Asian and PABA Champion, Suwa (40) ended a two-year lay-off but performed well as he improved his professional record to 23-13-2 (15). Diaz drops to 14-4 (10).

In the All-Dominican co-feature, Andres Zapata looked superb in scoring a fifth round knockout against Vladimir Baez to win the vacant UBO Caribbean Super Lightweight title.

It was supposed to be something of a home-coming for Baez, who boxed in the Dominican Republic for the first time in almost seven years after campaigning in Thailand and Japan, but Zapata obviously had his own plans.

The underdog going in, 29-year-old Zapata took his professional record to 11-9 (7), while former Dominican Champion Baez (36) falls to 26-7-2 (24).
