Christian
“Coqqus” Schembri, now 15-5 (7), captured the
vacant UBO Inter-Continental Middleweight title,
scoring a seventh round technical knockout over
tricky and experienced Georgian Paata
Varduashvili, 34-17-2 (27).
Schembri
(26) showed determination and composure, coming
back from a second round knock-down to wear down
Varduashvili (37), who was stopped by the
referee at the start of round seven when his
nose, possibly broken, bled uncontrollably.
Finally,
Clair Ciantar is the new UBO Female
Inter-Continental Super Featherweight Champion
after blowing out late substitute Marija
Fedotenkova from Latvia in the first stanza.
Time of stoppage was 1:36.
Ciantar
(36), who was coming off a spirited
decision-loss to top-class German Beke Bass last
November, is now 3-5 (1), and Fedotenkova (21)
drops to 1-4 (1).
All three
new UBO Inter-Continental Champions are now very
much in line to challenge for UBO world honors.
Promoted
by Michael Brown and his Supreme Boxing
Promotions, the UBO triple-header was televised
by TV Malta and Libya TV.
