In January 2012 Mohammed Matumla beat fellow Tanzanian Cosmas Cheka on points after eight close rounds. On March 27 they will duke it out again, this time with the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ Inter-Continental Super Featherweight title on the line.

The highly anticipated rematch will be the co-main event of a show arranged by promoter Kaike Siraju at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar Es Salaam, which also features the UBO All-Africa Light Heavyweight showdown between Abdallah Paziwapazi and Mada Maugo.

Matumla is 13-3-4 (4) in a professional career that started in 2010. While he has participated in several ten-round bouts, this will be his first championship fight. And he has quite big shoes to fill, which his nickname “Snakeboy Junior” is a testament to.

Mohamed is the son of Tanzanian boxing legend Rashid “Snakeboy” Matumla, who represented his country in three consecutive Olympics and went on to win two world championships in the paid ranks. He is also a nephew of former UBO Inter-Continental Bantamweight titlist Mbwana Matumla.

Cosmas Cheka (16-5-4, 2 KOs) is himself from a proud fighting-family. His brother Francis Cheka is one of Tanzania’s biggest starts currently in boxing, and a former UBO Inter-Continental Middleweight champion as well as former WBF world champion.

In his most recent fight Cosmas won the WBF All-Africa Super Lightweight title, but he has now decided to move down in weight with hopes of getting revenge against Matumla. This is his second shot at a UBO title, having lost a 2015 fight against Ibrahimu Class by majority decision for the All-Africa Lightweight belt.
