Matamba Postolo, the former UBO International, Inter-Continental and All-Africa champion, spent eight months in Miami, USA preparing for his UBO World Light Heavyweight title fight, which took place at the Batiment Du 30 Juin arena in Lubumbashi this past Saturday, March 22.

Postolo took on dangerman “King” Mada Maugo, a man of three nationalities with a Ugandan father and a Tanzanian mother, and American nationality from having received US citizenship some years ago.

The visitor, a former East & Central Africa champion, brought a 16-10 (12) professional record, having mixed with very good opposition.

As the fight got under way, spectators in the arena saw their local hero get off to a bad start, and it appeared that he would be in serious problems as he lost the first two rounds to a busy and sharp Maugo.

But in round three, the tide turned dramatically as Postolo hurt Maugo early, and then put on the pressure.

Postolo connected with some vicious uppercuts but the visitor made it through the round. However, at this point it already looked like a matter of time before Postolo would be able to catch Maugo again and finish the job.

The end came in round four, when Postolo hurt Maugo again and the referee saved him from further punishment at 2:01 of the stanza.

Matamba Postolo, who improved his professional record to 18-0 (12), becomes the first Congolese World Champion from Katanga to win the title inside the Katanga Province.

He was presented with the UBO World title belt by the chief of the Sports Division, representing all regional authorities.

Promoter of the show, which had three national title eliminators on the undercard, was Manda Mukadi.
