It was yet another step towards a world championship shot for Universal Boxing Organization™ Inter-Continental Super Middleweight Champion Anthony Dirrell when he took on former two-time world title-challenger Anthony Hanshaw Saturday night (July 27) at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Fighting live on Showtime Extreme on a show promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, Dirrell improved his professional record to 26-0 (22) by scoring an impressive technical knockout in round three.

Hanshaw’s record fell to 23-4-2 (14).

28-year-old Direll had his way with Hanshaw in the first two rounds, using his superior speed and ability to basically land at will.

In round three two big right hands floored Hanshaw, who beat the count but was ruled unable to continue to referee Mark Calo-Oy. Time of stoppage was 2:36.

“It felt good”, said Dirrell immediately after the fight. “I knew right when I got to camp that I felt good."

"I got all the rust off in my first fight (following a lay-off due to injuries from a motorcycle accident), fighting Dan Mouton (in May)."

"I moved on to this fight and I had to do it quick , so that I wouldn’t sit out as long as I did that.”

Dirrell is now hoping his next fight will be for a world title.
