After three previous failed attempts at world honours, fourth time was the charm for Halima Vunjabei who won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) world Featherweight title on Saturday night, March 21, in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

In the main event of a show promoted by Peaktime Sports Agency at Kinesi Stadium, broadcast live in Tanzania by TV3, Vunjabei had too much for flashy and game compatriot Sara Alex, who was gritty all the way.

Vunajbei, who turned professional in 2014 and came up short in WBF Light Flyweight, UBO Super Flyweight and WIBA Super Bantamweight challenges in 2018, 2021 and 2022, would not be denied this time as she boxed her way to a wide unanimous decision.

Judges Ramadhan Palasa and Modest Rashid both scored the fight 98-92, while judge Robert Kasiga had it slightly closer at 97-93.

A former UBO International Light Flyweight and WBF International Lightweight champion, Vunjabei (31) improved her record to 17-15-1 (10), having boxed exceptionally good opposition all over the world.

27-year-old Alex drops to 7-2-1 (0), but made a good account of herself and can certainly come again.
