Local hero Patricio Carrion became the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Continental (South America) Super Lightweight champion on Saturday night, August 16, in Iquique, Chile.

Outdoors at the Arena Cavancha, promoted by TC2 Boxing and broadcast live by RTC Television, Carrion defeated aggressive and game co-challenger Dilan Meneses from Bolivia, to lift the vacant title after a fast-paced and very entertaining fight.

Both boxers let their punches fly from the start, and both had their share of success, with Carrion mixing his shots well between body and head, and Meneses clearly aiming for a knockout punch.

It was boxer versus puncher, but it was the boxer who hurt his foe, as Carrion´s accurate shots floored Meneses twice in round four. Both both times Meneses got up, and continued to fire on all cylinders.

And amazingly, after a horrid fourth, the Bolivian underdog also came our all guns blazing in round five, but Carrion kept his composure and gave as good as he got in another splendid stanza.

In round six Carrion scored two more knock-downs where Meneses again beat the count, but when Carrion relentlessly went for the finish and let the punches rain down on his foe, the referee stepped in to save the brave Meneses from going down a third time.

It was an excellent fight, and both men can be very proud of their performance. In the end Carrion, now 21-1 (5), was a level above, but Meneses, who drops to 8-2 (5), proved that he belongs and can definitely come again.
