Italian Ahmed Obaid won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Flyweight title on Thursday, June 19.

At the Palapalestre in his home-town of Ferrara, Obaid scored a unanimous decision over the very game Rafael Marquez from Venezuela.

Marquez was aggressive from start to finish, and Obaid had to stay focused at all times and use his longer reach to keep him at bay.

It wasn't always pretty, but it was evenly matches, very competitive and entertaining, and both boxers gave their best efforts to win, proving themselves much better than their modest records suggest.

As the rounds passed, Obaid managed to have his own spells of aggression, but it was mostly Marquez coming forward and the local man moving and countering effectively.

Judges Giannantonio Canzian, Massimo Stuppazzini and Marco Zanatta all scored it the same, 80-72 for Obaid. While arguably justifiable, the wide scores doesn't do the effort of the determined Marquez justice.

After a rough start to his career, Obaid (29) took his professional record to 7-7-3 (1), having lost only once in his last eight outings. Marquez (21) lost for only the second time in his last seven, but drops to 6-6-2 (3).

The fight was the main event of a show promoted by Boxing Duran, streamed live by Fighters Life.
