Smokin´ Joe vs. Maverick: UBO Championship Boxing In Davenport

Local fighter “Smokin´” Joe Perez (18-6-4, 11 KOs) takes on Mike “Maverick” Conway (7-3-1, 3 KOs) from Pittsburgh for the vacant title in the headlining bout at the River Center.

Perez (34) turned pro in 2012 after an accomplished amateur career that saw him compete at world class level. He even fought in the semi-professional World Series of Boxing twice after making his pro debut.

After winning his first four pro outings, he has had an up-and-down career while not shying away from fighting tough opposition.

He is undefeated in his last five bouts, including a wins over undefeated Kevin Taylor Mangune (6-0, 5 KOs) and the hard-punching Donnie Reeves (8-6, 6 KOs).

His recent run also includes draws against another unbeaten foe in Adrian Corona (9-0, 2 KOs) and long-standing rival Ricky Lopez (21-5-1, 6 KOs).

In Conway (29) he will be facing another tough costumer, and a man who sees this as an opportunity to make a break-through in what is his first championship fight.

A pro since 2016, Conway has won his last three fights, and like Perez he will be looking to further build on his current momentum by winning the UBO title.

The more experienced man, Perez, must be considered a slight favourite going in, but Conway is hungry, has had time to prepare well, and cant be counted out by any means.
