It was literally “Show-Time” in Sofia, Bulgaria on Thursday night, October 19, with local star Yosif “The Viper” Panov becoming Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Welterweight champion defeating top-class Frenchman Sandy Messaoud.

With MMA legend Conor McGregor at ringside, and in the ring to congratulate the winner, Panov and Messaoud delivered an excellent, high-paced and close fight for the thousands of fans in attendance at the impressive Arena Sofia.

Broadcast live by Nova TV and Diema Sport in Bulgaria, and world-wide by FITE TV Pay-Per-View, the UBO world title fight headlined Max Fight Championship 56, one of the biggest combat sports cards in Europe this year featuring professional boxing, MMA, K1 and Muay Thai.

Southpaw Messaoud, who entered the fight with WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF regional championships on his resume, tried to take the initiative on the front foot, but Panov counter-punched nicely and was effective with his right hand.

Many rounds were difficult to score, and after twelve rounds of action between highly skilled boxers, it was clear that both men believed they had done enough to emerge victorious, but could not be sure.

However, while the judges scorecards were appropriately close, the decision was unanimous as Antonio Grigorov, Roland Kroi and Georgi Ivanov all scored it for Panov: 116-114, 115-113 and 117-114.

Recording by far his most significant win against his best opponent to date, a jubilant Panov improved his professional record to 25-3 (11).

Messaoud, now 17-7 (1), lost for the first time in over eight years, but did himself proud and can certainly come back in another big fight on the back of an excellent performance.

The show was promoted by Max Fight Production, who is firmly establishing itself as a premier player when it comes to arranging world class fight sports.
