Calista Silgado is a poster-girl for never
giving up! In her ninth (!) attempt, she is
now a world champion at last after defeating
previously unbeaten Stevie Morgan, relieving
the American of the Universal Universal
Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Lightweight
title on Saturday night, October 14, in
Gadsden, Alabama.

In the
main event of “Rumble By The River VII” promoted
by One One Six Boxing Promotions at The Venue at
Coosa Landing, the 35-year-old Colombian used
all her experience to pull off the biggest
triumph of a pro career which started almost
twelve years ago.
A
considerable favourite going into her second
world title-defense, Morgan started best, but
Silgado worked her way into the fight, found her
rhythm and finished strong by sweeping the last
four rounds on one score-card and the last three
on another.
After a
close fight, two of the judges scored the fight
96-94 for Silgado, while the third judge had it
all even at 95-95, making Silgado the new world
champion by Majority Decision.

Silgado
improved her professional record to 22-17-4 (16),
having fought many of the biggest stars on the
scene, including Amanda Serrano, Mikaela Mayer and
Jelena Mrdjenovic, whom many felt she was robbed
against in her most recent outing.
Morgan,
from Tampa in Florida, drops to 8-1 (7), but
deserves a lot of credit for her willingness to
face tough opposition and should come back
stronger.
