David Aloua had won the New Zealand national amateur championships and represented his country in the 2010 Commonwealth games, so expectations were high when he turned professional with the team of world champion Anthony Mundine in January of 2011.

After four victories, the only one going the distance a close decision over fellow undefeated prospect Hunter Sam on away soil in Australia, he was deemed ready for his first championship fight already in his fifth outing.

So, on November 11, 2011, at the Salle Louis Babo Aitamai de Fautau in Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia, of all places, Aloua took on Faimasasa TavuŽi for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Cruiserweight title.

In short: Faimasasa TavuŽi in Papeete for UBO International title!

TavuŽi was an experienced veteran with a 19-10-2 (11) record, a former Samoan national champion with several championship fights on his resume, and he was expected to give the young man from Auckland a hard test.

But it was not to be, as Aloua was far superior and completely dominated TavuŽi from the first bell, winning every round before the ringside doctor stopped the onslaught in round nine due to severe swelling of the eyes and a possible broken nose.

It was a very impressive performance from Aloua, and the future looked bright. Unfortunately, he never really lived up to his great potential.

He did add WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental & Pacific belts to his collection, but he also lost fights he was expected to win, and last fought in November of 2019 when he took his record to 13-3 (8) with a routine victory.
