UBO - Universal Boxing Organization™

Much like the world famous Rocky character, Panamanian Barnie Arguelles didn't have the glossiest of records when he challenged for the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Super Lightweight title.

And like the fictional Philadelphia-Heavyweight, he was known as someone who would put on a show and give his all, which is why he was considered a good opponent for undefeated Ukrainian Ihor Magurin on January 20, 2018 in Kiev.

His losses were almost exclusively against very good opponents, and he held a knockout victory over Ricardo Nunez (11-1) who went on to fight Gervonta Davis for the WBA world Super Featherweight title.

He had also proved his worth by only losing a technical decision to 15-0 Argentinian Luis Ernesto Rueda in his most recent fight, but at 11-7 (8) he was obviously a significant underdog against Magurin (7-0-1, 3 KOs).

It played out much like expected, with Arguelles doing his best and giving the talented home-man a stern test before losing a clear, but competitive unanimous decision.

Arguelles slipped back in the top-class journeyman role after what is his biggest fight, losing game efforts to world class opposition but also scoring a good win in 2018 over Rolando Giono (22-10).

He last fought in October of 2022, but at 33 he could potentially have a few years left earning decent money while testing up-and-comers and pulling off the occasional upset.
