Undefeated Punchers Collide For UBO World Cruiserweight Title

Popular local star Lucas Pontes Da Silva, the reigning WBC South America titlist, will face Venezuelan national champion Juan Diaz for the vacant title in the main event of a show promoted by UP BoxeShow at the Pará Clube.

Pontes Da Silva is only 6-0 (6), but, despite periods of inactivity, he has already accomplished a lot in those six outings. And no opponent has so far made it through two rounds!

In only his third fight he won the Brazilian national title, stopping Fernando Simoes de Almeida (8-1) in the second. Simoes de Almeida went on to win the UBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight title a couple of fights later.

Last June he demolished experienced Argentinian Maximiliano Jorge Gomez (29-6) in just over two minutes, to capture the WBC title, and now he is ready to go for world honours against fellow puncher Diaz.

Juan Diaz (10-0, 10 KOs) entered the paid ranks in March of 2019, and won the Venezuelan national title almost exactly a year later. Like Pontes Da Silva he is not used to long fights, going past four rounds only once.

With two undefeated power-punchers looking to score a knockout, it will almost certainly be an explosive affair in Belem, and a bit of a surprise if the fight goes the full twelve rounds.
