On
what was arguably the most comprehensive
promotion in Turkish boxing history,
featuring no less than ten championship
fights, two Universal Boxing Organization™
(UBO) champions were crowned on Sunday,
April 30, in Istanbul.

Kazakhstan´s Askat Zhantursynov scored what
could easily turn out to be the 2023 UBO
Knockout of the Year, when he levelled local man
Serdar Sirin to win the vacant UBO All-Asia
Cruiserweight title.
Zhantursynov, now 7-1 (5), allowed the home-town
boxer to be the aggressor, and then countered
with a picture-perfect overhand right in the
second round which brutally knocked Sirin out
cold. No count issued!
The punch
was so well delivered, and connected with such
force, that it was immediately clear that it
would decide the fight.

With only
eight bouts since entering the paid code almost
five years ago, Zhantursynov is hoping this
spectacular victory will make up for some of the
lost time and give his career new life.

In the
second UBO title fight of the evening,
undefeated Turk Yigit Yazici captured the vacant
UBO European Super Welterweight title, defeating
Novruz Huseynov from Azerbaijan by third round
technical knockout.
Unfortunately it never became the barn-burner it
was expected to be, as Huseynov retired on his
stool before the start of round three, claiming
an arm injury.
With the
victory, Yazici improved his professional record
to 5-0 (2), while Huseynov, who entered the
fight with five straight victories, drops to 8-2
(7).
