In the first step-up of his career, Dominican prospect Samuel Jaime Rodriguez won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Caribbean Super Lightweight title on Saturday night, April 1, in Sosua, Dominican Republic.

In his first professional title fight, “Chocolatico Jr.” scored a third round stoppage of fellow countryman David Martinez, impressing the fans in attendance.

The 23-year-old from Santo Domingo made a firm statement that he is one to watch out for, as he had too much speed and power for veteran Martinez.

With the victory Rodriguez takes his unblemished record to 7-0 (6) and is clearly ready for bigger challenges, while former WBA regional title-challenger Martinez falls to 10-15-1 (6).

The fight was one of the featured bouts of a twelve-fight card promoted by Payne Boxing in association with Shaun Boxing Promotions.

The show was broadcast live world-wide on Boxing TV.
