Puerto Rico-born Jesus Escalera is still the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental and Latino Heavyweight champion after making the first defense of his titles Friday night, March 24, in Melgar, Tolima, Colombia.

Trained by former world Lightweight champion Nate Campbell, “Tito” Escalera defeated Colombian veteran Epifanio Mendoza in the main event of the latest edition of T & K Boxing Promotions “Rising Stars” series.

Escalera and Mendoza traded bombs in the first round, which was contested on even terms. But the champion made a quick breakthrough in round two, when he floored Mendoza with a thudding body-shot.

Mendoza beat the referees count and continued, but was clearly suffering from the effects of the perfectly placed punch from Escalera.

As the bell sounded to start round three, Mendoza rose from his stool but communicated to the referee that he was not able to continue, resulting in a third round technical knockout for Escalera.

The victory comes exactly one month after Florida-based southpaw won the UBO titles, stopping Venezuelan Yonny Molina in two rounds.

Just over five months into his professional career, Escalera has been incredibly busy as he improves his unblemished record to 9-0 (9).

After what was his eightieth pro fight, “Diamante” Mendoza, coming off victories in his last two outings, drops to 45-35-1 (3).
