Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-America Welterweight champion, and former International titlist, Brandon “The Cannon” Berry (25-6-2, 18 KOs) took some time out for a Q & A.

How was boxing considered in your house as a kid?

It kind of just happened. My dad and brother watched George Foreman vs. Michael Moorer back in 1994, and It got my brother interested in trying boxing. So my parents started bringing him to a club 2.5 hours drive away.

Living in northern Maine that was the closest gym. I wanted to be like him, so I tagged along and eventually started boxing myself.

Who is the best opponent you have faced?

My best opponent, amateur or pro, was Tommy Duquette.

Multiple time Golden Gloves champ, on the US national team from 2008–2012, and just missed out on the Olympics. He fought current world champions in the amateurs, picking up some big wins.

The best part is he is one of my closest friends and was even my coach for a while.

How did it come about that you decided to turn pro?

It was hard to get amateur fights, and I wanted to fight as much as possible. I had over 50, a lot where I'm from. I wanted to have a few pro fights, see where it would go and show kids that you can do cool things even though we are geographically disadvantaged.

I have had such a great time and met so many great people. Boxing has been an amazing part of my life. This May its 10 years as a pro. I can't believe how quick it all has happened.

How did you become "The Cannon"?

Early on as an amateur I had stopped a couple of guys and somebody at an ice arena yelled out "that guy has a cannon". My brother smiled and said "Brandon The Cannon", and I kinda ran with it.

How come you have such incredible support from local fans?

I think it has a lot to do with my family's store. We get to know so many people. Small communities love to support anything positive.

I´m thankful and outgoing with all of my supporters, I think it just grows. It's amazing how many people reach out, and the hundreds of people who travel up to 300 miles to see me fight.

And it doesn't matter if I win, they are right there regardless. I could never have done it without them. I´m forever grateful.
