At CSKA Sport Complex in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Saturday December 11, local star Yedil Kozhamberdiyev won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title.

In one of the featured bouts of MTK Fight Night, broadcast live in parts by ESPN+ and IFLTV, Kozhamberdiyev impressively stopped previously undefeated Turkish co-challenger Hamza Gunes in the first round.

Kozhamberdiyev was nothing short of destructive, as he floored Gunes twice with body-shots and then with a left hook to the chin, prompting referee Baurzhan Isakov to wave it off after the third knock-down. Time of stoppage was 2:38.

It was something of a statement performance from Kozhamberdiyev, who, while the favourite, was expected to get a stern challenge in Gunes, a former stand-out amateur.

Winning his tenth straight bout, Kozhamberdiyev, who has also won WBC, WBA and IBA regional titles, improved his professional record to 11-2 (11). Gunes drops to 6-1 (4).

Promoter of the show was MTK Kazakhstan in association with Tukeshov Boxing Promotions.
