Fernandez Edges Uribe In Action-Packed UBO Title-Victory

In front of an almost sold out Auditorio Municipal in Ascension, Chihuahua, Mexico, Fernandez slugged it out with compatriot Leticia Uribe over ten action-packed and highly competitive rounds.

The fight was back-and forth, and both women had their moments. Fernandez was mostly the one going forward while Uribe tried to counter-punch, but also went on the attack in spurts.

The fight finished with two tired warriors leaving everything in the ring as they went toe-to-toe in the last round, and while it looked as if Fernandez had done the more effective work it also appeared to be a close fight.

But, even though it was a split decision, all three judges scored the fight mysteriously wide. Judges Darlene Zubia and Bertha Gaytan had it 100-90 for Fernandez, while judge Alfredo Saenz scored it the complete other way around: 100-90 for Uribe.

Looking past the strange scores, its hard to argue too much against Fernandez winning and improving her professional record to 15-6-1 (3). Uribe, much better than her record suggests, drops to 6-18 (0) but can be very proud of her effort.
