From
Stockton, California, 31-year-old Gonzalez beat
local man Christian Rene Arenas by second round
knockout, improving his misleading professional
record to 11-6-1 (9).
This was
a rematch of a December 2019 encounter, which
Gonzalez won by sixth round stoppage after a
competitive affair, but this time he appeared to
be on a different level than his rival.
After a
slow first round, where Gonzalez landed a couple
of body-shots and Arenas, now 10-2 (5), was
hesitant to engage, “King Gio” came out
determined to make his mark in round two.

Arenas
started to throw meaningful punches back, but
Gonzalez landed a hard left to the body which
clearly hurt Arenas, and then followed up with
three more punches in the same area.
The
fourth body-shot send Arenas down hard and
unable to beat the count of referee Fernando
Renteria.
A longer
and more action-packed fight was expected, but
Arenas looked out of his debt despite having
plenty of time to prepare for the fight.
Gonzalez was on top of his game though, and is
clearly ready for tougher challenges.
