UBO Flashback: When "La Reina" Ruled The Lightweights

In January of 2011, in her eight pro fight and not yet twenty-three years old, she won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Lightweight title, stopping Halana Dos Santos (13-3) from Brazil in six rounds.

Three months later she successfully defended the UBO World title, headlining a show in her home-town Paysandu, scoring a unanimous decision over Argentina´s Alicia Susana Alegre (7-4) with a large crowd and TV audience watching.

She quickly developed into something of a celebrity in Uruguay. The fact that she looked nice didn't hurt, but it was mostly because she had shown that she could fight very well.

March of 2012 saw Comunales add the WBA World Lightweight title to her resume, when she stopped Dominican Maribel Santana (11-9-1) in the opener.

She finished that year with a defense of her unified UBO/WBA World titles, out-classing former South American champion Simone Da Silva (11-3) with a wide unanimous decision in Argentina.

The following summer she demolished Marisol Reyes (11-6-1) in the first round, and not long after she decided to move up to Super Lightweight, relinquishing her world titles.

After one fight at the higher weight, beating Lina Tejada (10-2) for the WBC International title, she changed her mind and returned to Lightweight in June of 2016 to reclaim the WBA world title against Waleria Dos Santos (6-4).

At 14-1 (9), and now a two-time world champion, Dos Santos turned out to be her last opponent. Retiring at twenty-eight, she had clearly established herself as one of the very best Lightweights on the planet.

Between 2011 and 2016, she was indeed “La Reina”, The Queen of the Lightweights!
