Also on
Saturday June 13, in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania,
UBO All Africa Super Middleweight Champion Jacob
Maganga made a successful first defense of his
title by fending off fellow countryman Mada
Maugo at the Friends Corner Hall.
Maugo
scored a knock-down in round four, but most saw
it as a clear slip. That was not the case when
Maganga send Maugo to the canvass at the end of
round seven with a right cross, and it appeared
that only the bell saved Maugo.
The
fight went the full ten rounds, but it was clear
that Maganga had done plenty to get the
decision. Judges Robert Kasiga, Anthony Ruta and
Sakwe Mtulya all had him winning by scores of
96-92, 97-91 and 96-93.
Maganga
is now 6-2-3 (3), and Maugo, a former UBO world
Light Heavyweight title-challenger, drops to
19-14 (13). The fight was promoted by Mwazoa
Promotion.
