Promoter Rodrigue Ah-Min put on a big night of boxing on Friday May 8, with a Universal Boxing Organization™ championship doubleheader featuring local favorites at the Salle Louis Bobo in Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynessia.

Reigning Oceania Boxing Association Lightweight titlist Karihi Tehei moved down in weight, winning the vacant UBO International Super Featherweight title with a deserved unanimous decision over former French title-challenger Sofiane Bellahcene.

The new champion, who improved his professional record to 7-2 (4), boxed well, showed that he has potential for more despite being 34 years old, and could be in line to eventually challenge for the UBO World title in the future.

In the co-featured bout, UBO European Heavyweight Champion Temoo Tamaititahio successfully defended his crown for the first time, putting on an impressive performance against another former French title-challenger in Alban Galonnier.

After a close first round, Tamaititahio (6-1, 4 KOs) connected with a hard right hand in round two, which send Galonnier on his back, clearly hurt. The Frenchman bravely beat the referees count, but staggered and was rightly stopped at 2:45 of the round.

Like Tehei, Tamaititahio is hoping for a shot at the UBO world title, and with a performance like this it will take a very good opponent to beat him.
