Kamote & Mashali Wins UBO Titles In Tanzania

Dedicated to the memory of Fadhili Awadhi, the local boxer who died from a severe Malaria attack while preparing to fight in one of the featured bouts, two new Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Champions were crowned on Saturday, March 29, at the PTA Hall in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

 
  

Allan Kamote defeated late substitute Karage Suba by technical knockout in round seven to win the vacant UBO International Lightweight title. Suba got the opportunity when tragedy struck and original challenger Awadhi passed away two weeks ago, and put up a valiant effort.
 

Having turned pro at sixteen in 1998, the new champion improved his professional record to 24-7-4 (14). Karage Suba, fighting for his first professional championship, falls to 12-8-2 (10).
 

In the second featured bout of the evening, Thomas Mashali moved up from Middleweight, where he unsuccessfully challenged for the UBO Inter-Continental title in his last bout, to take on compatriot Japhet Kaseba for the vacant UBO All-Africa Light Heavyweight title.

And Mashali, a former East & Central Africa and WBF Africa Champion, handled the jump up in weight well, as he won a unanimous decision after ten rounds. Judges Robert Kasiga, Omari Yasidu and Pembe Ndava all scored it 97-93 for Mashali.
 

Only 24 years old, Mashali is now 10-2-1 (5) in the pros, while reigning Tanzanian national champion Japhet Kaseba (34) drops to 5-4 (3).
