Reigning Universal Boxing Organization™ International Light Heavyweight Champion Mohamed Merah put on what was perhaps his best performance as a professional, when he made a successful first defense of his title on Friday November 8 in Douai, France.

Merah took control from the start, and was clearly well-prepared for what southpaw challenger Paata Aduashvili from Georgia had in store for him.

Boxing well on the inside and at a distance, Merah was the quicker and more accurate of the two, but Aduashvili never stopped trying and proved very game and determined.

The two well-conditioned boxers kept the fight entertaining, despite Merah being dominant, and the enthusiastic crowd at the Salle Theo Bouton seemed happy with the action in the ring.

However, after ten rounds of boxing there could not be any doubt as to who was the winner, despite both boxers raising their arms after the final bell.

Judges Andre Pasquier and Daniel Francois both had it a 100-90 shutout in favor of Merah, while Mohamed Hireche had it a little closer at 99-91. Referee in charge of the bout was Christophe Hembert.

With the victory, Mohamed Merah, who won the UBO title last March, improved his professional record to 9-1-3 (2), while Paata Aduashvili falls to 7-2-2 (4). The show was promoted by Robert Pantigny and the Douai Boxing Club.
