Kenyan Javan Buyu rose to the occasion when he faced Ramadhan Idd from Tanzania for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Lightweight title on Saturday, July 25.

In front of a capacity crowd at the Edge Convention Center in Nairobi, headlining SportPesa Boxing promoted by UFS BXNG, Buyu proved that he is one to look out for.

Idd fancied his chances going in, starting the fight with an aggressive approach, and he was not out of his debt by any means in the first two rounds.

As the second stanza neared its end, there were signs that Buyu was taking over, but Idd continued to give almost as much as he got in round three, until Buyu floored him with a left to the body followed by a right to the body.

Wincing in pain, the visitor couldn't beat the count of referee Anthony Ruta, making Buyu an impressive winner by knockout. Official time of stoppage: 2:13 of round three.

Buyu (29), already the Kenyan national and PST title-holder, is now 8-0 (5) in just over two years as a pro, and could be on a fast-track towards a fight for the UBO world Lightweight title.

28-year-old Idd loses for the first time since 2022, as he drops to 9-2 (2). He came to fight his chance, and can certainly come again.
