Bangkok-based Iranian, and new Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Continental (Asia) Super Welterweight champion, Mahdi Sarbaz is a prime example that records are just numbers.

At 6-4 (5) many would look at his statistics and assume he is a journeyman fighter, but in reality he is, with all due respect to journeymen, much more than that. He is just willing to fight anyone, anywhere!

In October of 2024 he won the WBC Asian Continental Super Lightweight title, defeating Filipino Jimmy Paypa (20-6-1) by unanimous decision.

That was however followed by three defeats against very good opponents in Sergey Lubkovich (18-0-1) in Russia, Irakli Melikishvili (6-0) in Georgia and Alan Khugaev (20-0) in Russia.

Lubkovich and Melikishvili beat Sarbaz on points, while Khugaev was awarded a very controversial stoppage win where the referee stepped in much too early.

Many would be discouraged by a run like that, But Sarbaz went straight back into another tough fight, winning the UBO Continental (Asia) title by stopping Elmo Traya (16-5) in six rounds on October 25 in Bangkok.

Besides his second professional title, the impressive performance also earns him UBO Boxer of the Month honours for October 2025.
