The
22-year-old Thailand-based southpaw from Turkey
won the title on Saturday, may 31, at the World
Siam Stadium in Bangkok, defeating fellow
undefeated Chaiyapong Phongwankittikun.
In one of the
best fights you will see in a long time, Konuk
came off the floor in round four to rebound
strongly
after being in
serious trouble, and
won
by extremely close Majority Decision (95-94,
95-94, 95-95).
It was some
effort, and by far the best victory of his
career, edging a very good opponent in
Phongwankittikun, who arguably comes in at
second place for this award.
