It would be a
while before his career started to develop as he
had hoped, and he was four years a pro before he
got his first championship fight.
At 7-0 “El
Ruso” won the Chilean national Middleweight
title, in his home town of Puente Alto, scoring
a wide unanimous decision over Octavio Faundez
in December of 2022.
But another
sixteen months passed before he really started
to make a breakthrough. In April of 2024 he
captured WBC Feconsur Super Middleweight
honours, defeating Argentinian Leonel Hinojosa
by decision.

In a
Middleweight rematch four months later, Cherkashyn
repeated the victory, in the same manner, to
become UBO champion.
In
his most recent outing, this past February,
Cherkashyn added the WBC Latino Middleweight title
to his resume after a dominant performance against
tough Colombian Alexi Rivera, winning a near
shut-out on the cards.
Appearing more
than ready for the next step, 2025 could turn out
to be the best year yet for Joseph Cherkashyn.
