Australia´s Matt “The Jedi” Floyd is the new Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) world Cruiserweight champion after winning the vacant title on Friday night, December 27, in Ankara, Turkey.

In the main event of a show at the JW Marriott Hotel, promoted by Tunal Academy in association with Reyes Boxing, Floyd scored a wide unanimous decision over former two-time WBC world titlist Sirimongkhon Iamthuam from Thailand.

This was a rematch of their original fight in October, where Iamthuam was awarded a controversial split decision for the World Boxing Foundation world Light Heavyweight title in Bangkok.

Many felt that Floyd won that bout convincingly, and after multiple complaints the World Boxing Foundation reviewed the bout and declared it a No Contest.

Redeemed only to an extent, Floyd was however focused on getting full redemption in the ring, and boxed excellently to set the record straight.

Iamthuam, a genuine legend in Thailand, proved a worthy co-challenger but was out-worked and out-punched by the talented Aussie.

After twelve entertaining rounds of boxing, judges Safak Karlidag and Volkan Simsek both scored it 118-109, while judge Ayse Unal had it 119-108.

As it appears that the Professional Boxing Association of Thailand has yet to accept the No Contest ruling issued by the World Boxing Foundation, Floyd´d BoxRec record now stands at 15-1 (10), and not 15-0.

Iamthuam, a former UBO Inter-Continental champion, drops to 99-6 (62).

A second UBO title fight scheduled for the card, between Muhammad Shoaib from Pakistan and Mohd Azahar from India, was cancelled when the latter missed his flight to Turkey.
