Patrik Fiala defied the odds on Saturday night, October 19, when he won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Continental (Europe) Light Heavyweight title in Poprad, Slovakia.

Facing a much more experienced and accomplished foe, the Czech underdog defeated former UBO International titlist Jozef Jurko in his home-country, winning his first professional title.

Fiala looked comfortable and confident from the first round, as he traded punches with the local favourite and looked the sharper man in most exchanges.

Jurko tried to get the upper hand, but Fiala wisely covered up when the Slovakian attacked, and came back with his own hurtful blows to both body and head.

In round five Fiala forced Jurko to a corner and hurt him with a left hook, followed up by straight shots and an uppercut, and several more straight shots.

Jurko wasn't punching back, and appeared completely spent when a hard right hand hurt him again, forcing the referee to intervene and stop the onslaught.

It was a very impressive performance from 27-year-old Fiala, who is now 10-5-2 (7) after just over three years in the pro game.

Jurko (30), a winner in his last two bouts coming in, drops to 11-9-1 (6). He has come back strong from defeats before, and can do so again.
