Very talented Samuel “Eagle Eye” Martei Laryea looked exceptional on his way to winning the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Africa Super Bantamweight title on Saturday night, October 12, at Palace Forecourt in Akropong, Ghana.

Laryea took on Nigerian visitor Lukman Akinolugbade, who had taken the assignment on short notice but started out well and was giving Laryea plenty of resistance in the early going.

Both boxers threw hard shots with intend to knock the other man out, but Laryea moved wonderfully and often pulled back just in time to see Akinolugbade´s shots miss by an inch or two.

It was at times lovely boxing in a high-paced bout, and while Laryea won the rounds it was very competitive until Akinolugbade suddenly retired as the bell rang for round five.

It was a disappointing ending as it was shaping up to become an even better match-up, but Laryea didn't put a foot wrong and is a deserved new UBO champion.

24-year-old Laryea took his professional record to 7-1-1 (6). His sole loss came by razor-thin decision to undefeated Kouassi Klaklevi from Benin, and his draw against another unbeaten opponent in compatriot Enoch Tetteh.

Akinolugbade (35), who entered the fight a winner in three of his last four, drops to 7-3-1 (7). The reason for his abandonment remains unclear.

Broadcast live on YouTube by KA Sports, the fight headlined a show promoted by Safe-Box Promotions in association with Ace Power Promotions.
