Armenian Mikael Arutyunyan proved too much for local co-challenger Surat Eaim Ong, as he won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Featherweight title on Saturday, October 5 in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

Arutyunyan (29), having his twelfth straight fight in Thailand, faced a very game opponent in the young Thai, and had to cope with an aggressive start from Eaim Ong who went forward and threw mainly power-shots, winning the first two rounds on all scorecards.

But as he tried to make a serious dent in Arutyunyan, Eaim Ong forgot about his defense and was caught with hard counters in round three, one of which sent him down for the full count. Official time of stoppage: 1:14.

Coming off two victories at the same venue, the Singmanassak Muaythai School, Easim Ong had definitely come to fight his chance, but his recklessness after a good start cost him dearly.

Arutyunyan was patient and disciplined, and waited for the right time to strike and it paid off. The new UBO champion, who has previously won Thailand national, Asian Boxing Federation and WBC Asian Silver titles, took his professional record to 12-2 (9).

Eaim Ong, who is also a former Thailand national champion and a WBC and WBO regional title-challenger, drops to 21-7-1 (15).

The fight was promoted by Singmanassak Boxing headed by Manop Iamthuam, the father of former WBC world and UBO Inter-Continental champion Sirimongkhon Iamthuam.
