Brandon Alexander successfully defended the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Middleweight title on Saturday, September 28, in Cartagena, Colombia.

But it was not an easy night for the undefeated American, who took on local man Ricardo Marriaga (7-3-1, 4 KOs) who had come to do all he could to dethrone Alexander.

After a close first round where both boxers found their share of success, Marriaga had a very strong second where he pressured Alexander, landed some heavy shots and gave the champion a lot to think about.

It was a fast-paced shootout, and it was clear that neither man had any intentions of the fight going the distance, which made it an entertaining affair.

In round three Alexander began focusing on body-work, which made the difference for him as he floored Marriaga with a heavy shot.

The Colombian gamely beat the count, but was soon after hurt badly by a shot to the head, leaving him dazed and defenceless on the ropes, forcing referee Jorge Romero jump in to save him before Alexander could land cleanly again.

Alexander, who improved his professional record to 9-0 (7), has had an incredible 2024, winning the UBO International title in March, the Inter-Continental in June, and now defending the Inter-Continental.
