UBO Flashback: When Kozhamberdiyev Demolished Undefeated Foe For UBO Title

Matched with undefeated Hamza Gunes (6-0, 4 KOs) from Turkey, Kozhamberdiyev, 10-2 (10) at the time, came out like a freight-train and repeatedly hurt his opponent with vicious body-shots.

The end came at 2:38 of the first round when the Kazakh, after scoring a knock-down, went for the finish and landed another body-shot followed up by a perfect left hook which sent Gunes crashing and forced referee Baurzhan Iskakovto wave it off without a count.

It was impressive and conclusive by the local man, who lost two of his first three pro bouts in 2017 but went on to capture WBC, IBA and WBA regional titles before winning the UBO belt.

Unfortunately Kozhamberdiyev´s career somehow stalled after what was one of his best performances, and he has only boxed twice since.

In April of last year he won another WBC regional title, stopping India´s Kuldeep Singh in three, and this past March he got rid of Indonesian Alexander Bajawa in one round.

Now 13-2 (13), but thirty-seven years old, he has little time to waste if he is to fulfil his great potential. He has paralysing power, and should at least get an opportunity to become world champion before ending his career.
