Miami-based Italian Rocco “Rocky” Vassallo added the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Welterweight title to his resume on Saturday night in Sosua, Dominican Republic.

In his most recent fight, last April, Vassalo won the WBA Fedecaribe title, so he was entering his rematch with Dominican veteran Elvin de La Rosa with plenty of momentum.

Vassallo had a tough fight with De la Rosa in September of last year, which he eventually won in five rounds, but this time the result never seemed in doubt.

While Vassallo had a little trouble finding his distance in the first two rounds, he landed a big right hand early in round three which send De La Rosa down for the full count. Time of stoppage: 0:38.

Making his debut in 2022, Vassallo (27) has boxed exclusively in the Dominican Republic as a professional. He improved his record to 11-0 (9).

De la Rosa, in the paid ranks for over ten years and coming off a knockout win of his own, falls to 15-12 (13).

The fight was promoted by Torres & Gomes Promotions.
