Undefeated Simone “Love” Vanni defeated Mohamed Nasri to win the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Continental (Europe) Super Lightweight title on Thursday night, July 25, in Ferrara, Italy.

Promoted by Accademia SSD in association with Boxing Duran Italia, this was a rematch, after Vanni had won their first meeting on points in March of last Year, and he showed that it was not a fluke.

The 32-year-old from Empoli, now 9-0 (2), boxed excellently, moving well and making Nasri miss before countering with quick and precise punches.

Nasri was determined to even the score in front of his home-town crowd, and tried to press the action, but Vanni was just too sharp and made him pay both from the outside and at close range.

In round three, as Nasri was trying to launch an attack, Vanni caught him with a perfectly timed right hand, scoring a knock-down just before the end of the round.

Vanni floored Nasri again with another right hand in round six, but was not able to finish his man, and while Vanni was largely in control, Nasri showed heart and will-power to remain competitive until the final bell.

Judges Diego Guida, Mario Acri and Antonio Nardelli scored the contest 77-73, 76-74 and 79-71 respectively, all for Simone Vanni.
