Moving Down For The Upgrade! Woods Fighting For UBO World Title

Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) Inter-Continental Super Lightweight champion Shamara Woods (8-0-1, 6 KOs) will be moving down in weight to fight for the vacant UBO world Lightweight title.

  
 

On August 6 in Santa Marta, Colombia, the 28-year-old from Allentown in Pennsylvania will take on local former world title-challenger Lira Huyke (8-5-1, 7 KOs).


This will be the Americans fifth straight bout in Santa Marta, so she wont be faced by going abroad for what is the biggest fight of her career to date.


Woods won the UBO Inter-Continental title last February when she stopped Clarena Julio in six rounds, and picked up another win in a non-title bout a month later.


 
 

Since then she has stayed busy boxing in the Team Combat League, fighting one-round bouts against high-level opposition as part of the Philadelphia Smoke team.

But now she is ready to return to traditional boxing, and will be in with an experienced opponent in Huyke who is coming off four straight knockout wins.

Should Woods be victorious on August 6, it will be some story. A single mother fighting to create a good life for herself and her young son, she only turned pro in April of last year but has continuously been working hard, and soon she may be able reap the rewards by becoming UBO world champion.
