At the
Enoch Community Centre in Enoch, Alberta, Byard
(42) went to war with the much younger,
undefeated compatriot Benjamin Alvarez (28), and
emphatically proved that age is just a number.
Headlining a show promoted by former UBO world
Light Heavyweight champion Ryan Ford and his
Real Deal Promotions, the gruelling affair was
broadcast live world-wide by FITE TV.
After six
rounds of back-and-forth action, with both men
on the canvas, Byard impressively forced the
stoppage in round six when he went all out,
throwing everything at Alvarez and hurting him
badly with several shots, prompting the referee
to intervene just before Alvarez went down.
Official time: 1:33 or round six.

It was
breathtaking stuff, as the new UBO champion
improved his professional record to 7-4 (7) and
also captured the Canadian title in the process.
Chile-born Alvarez drops to 4-1 (4).
Byard
turned professional in 2019 at 36 after being
released from prison, proving that its never too
late to do big things if you make the right
decisions in life.
He lost his
first four pro bouts, but has shown incredible
resilience and has since won seven straight and is
now at the height of his career.
