Majia to fight Ntambi for World Super Flyweight title

November 12, 2010 / BY UBO PRESS OFFICER

Mudde Ntambi Rabison (16-1-1, 6 KOs) from Uganda was originally scheduled to take on UBO International champion Juma Fundi this past August for the Universal Boxing Organization™ World Super Flyweight title. But when Kampala police, in the wake of the terror attacks in the city in July, decided it was unsafe to go ahead, the fight was postponed.

However, due to the uncertainty of when, or even if, the bout would be rescheduled, Fundi decided to sign for another fight, leaving Ntambi without a dance-partner. The 25-year old Ugandan instead won a lackluster eight round decision in an October tune-up, and will now take on another Tanzanian on January 15 2011, also in Kampala.

Ntambi (Left) on his way to an eight round decision victory in October over Sonny Kalule.

The opponent will now be Fadhili Majia, who brings a record of 8-1-1 (4). Majia is the reigning Tanzanian flyweight champion, and is ranked considerably higher than Ntambi in the BoxRec computer rankings. In 2009 he won the Tanzanian Super Flyweight title, and later that year moved up to Bantamweight to fight highly regarded South African Vusi Malinga for the WBO Africa crown.

Against Malinga, Majia came up short and realized he was in the wrong weight class. Earlier this year he returned at Flyweight and became a two-time, two-division Tanzanian champion when he stopped Ramadham Kumbele in four rounds.

Now Majia has decided to move up in weight again when the World title opportunity against Ntambi presented itself at Super Fly. As is always the case when a Ugandan fights a Tanzanian, a lot of pride will also be at stake on January 15.

The fight will be promoted by Eddie Bazira and his Baltic Pro Box Promotions, and sponsored by Uganda Breweries and Crown Beverages.
