With his new belt around his waist, Menard was happy
but not entirely pleased with his own performance:
“It took me a little while to get started. Then Chad
(Broussard) fired me up in the corner and told me to get my head in the game. I
didn't start fighting until the seventh round like I should have in the first
six rounds. I looked good throughout the fight, but that was not how I'm used
to fighting", Menard told deepsouthboxing.com after the fight.
“I believe I won every round. He probably threw more
punches than I did, but I was more accurate. I was dodging his punches. I hit
him with some good shots, but I wasn't putting them together. I was hitting him
with some good head and body shots, but not following up."
However, UBO USA Commissioner, and supervisor for the
fight, Macke Roberts was impressed with both Menard and the surroundings in which
the 21-year old performed, saying:
“Menard is talented, and can go a long way. He did
well against Cannon, and he must be very popular because the place was packed
and the atmosphere was amazing. I want to thank Chad Broussard and the
Louisiana Boxing Commission, and of course also the boxers and all the fans,
for making this fight a huge success. It was a pleasure to be a part of”.
On the same night, thousands of miles away, in
Mbuji-Mayi, D.R. Congo, Matamba Postolo stayed unbeaten and took the vacant UBO
International cruiserweight title with a unanimous decision over fellow
countryman Kabuya Aggry. The highly anticipated fight had been talked about for
many months, and a lot of pride was at stake besides the UBO championship belt.
The bout was fought at close quarters and at a very
high pace, with both boxers unwilling to let the other take command. As the
rounds passed it became more and more impressive how the two boxers could
maintain such a high work-rate, and all the way to the final bell it was still
not a given who would eventually prevail. Postolo seemed a bit more accurate
and active, but a determined Aggry also had significant success.
After ten thrilling rounds of action, Postolo´s hands
were raised in victory and his undefeated record improved to 10-0 (5). Aggry
lost for only the second time as a professional, and is now 7-2-1 (0). The show
was promoted by Mukadi Manda, and UBO supervisor in charge was Claude Kaninda.
