May 3, 2010 / BY UBO PRESS OFFICER

UBO World Super Middleweight champion Kali Jacobus made a successful first defence of his title on Saturday May 1 at the Ex-Fol Omnisport Stadium in Port-Vila, Vanuatu, scoring a wide unanimous decision over game challenger Komgrit Nanakorn from Thailand.

Judges Steve Miles and Laurie Glozier from New Zealand (both scoring 120-108), and Fijis Jeremaia Ledua (118-110) saw the fight lopsidedly in favour of Jacobus, but the tough visitor never stopped trying throughout the twelve rounds and made it an entertaining night for the sell-out crowd and people listening to the live national radio broadcast of the bout.

Nanakorn, coming off three straight victories in the last four months while Jacobus entered the ring for the first time since winning the UBO title in October 2009, was confident hed be able to pull off the upset, but a focused and technical superior Jacobus was one step ahead of him from start to finish. There was no doubt about who had won the fight at the conclusion, but the champion had to work for his victory.

The Universal Boxing Organization extends sincere gratitude towards the Vanuatu Government for its continued support and enthusiasm.
