Madilu, returning to the ring after ten months out
following a close decision loss to former UBO
International Flyweight Champion Juma Fundi last
June, started the bout fast and scored a flash
knockdown in the first round.
Omari tried to gain the momentum, but Madilu never
gave him time to breath and got off to a good
start with a big round one.
The next few rounds continued to have Madilu in
the driver’s seat, but Omari came back strong in
rounds five, six and seven before he apparently
tired and resorted to holding.
Many rounds were close, and in the end the split
decision went to Madilu.
Judges Omari Yazidu and Emmanuel Mlundwa voted in
favor of Madilu (97-92 and 96-93), while Pembe
Ndava had Omari ahead by one point (95-94).
