Loic Foure of France captured the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ Inter-Continental Welterweight title on Saturday night at the Salle Omnisports in Saint-Maur, when he scored a unanimous decision over Belgian Champion Kobe Vandekerkhove.

It was a closely fought contest where both boxers had their moments, and in many rounds it was hard to separate the two.

Foure was spurred on by around 1500 fans in the packed venue, but it never discouraged the tough Vandekerkhove who came to win and bring back the UBO title to Belgium.

However, after ten rounds of fast-paced boxing, the judges scored the bout 96-94 (Jean-Pierre Van Imschoot, Belgium), 97-93 (Alexander Plumanns, Germany) and 96-95 (Noel Monnet, France).

Referee in charge was Christophe Hembert of France.

32-year-old Foure took his professional resume to 20-7-3 (4), while Vandekerkhove (28) is now 21-15-3 (6).

“It was a close fight, and I respect the decision. But had we fought in Belgium I am sure I would have won”, said the gracious loser after the fight.

Promoter of the fight was Saint-Maur Boxe, headed by Sebastian Piteau.
