Ribchev, who previously held the UBO International
title, won by 118-109, 118-109 and 118-110 votes
from the judges, but the scores doesn’t adequately
reflect the competitiveness and drama of the
fight. In round two Andino connected with a
vicious left hook that send Ribchev down, and only
the great conditioning of the Bulgarian enabled
him to get up from the heavy knock-down.
After taking a count Ribchev was able to continue,
and after a shaky third round where he was trying
to get back his composure, he started to take over
and got the fight under control. Andino continued
to be aggressive, but Ribchev managed to
outmaneuver him with clever boxing, and was often
very effective with his straight right hand.
While the scores seemed too wide, the victory for
Ribchev was deserved, and he improved his
professional record to 13-4-1 (3). Like many times
before, he proved that he is a tough-as-nails
fighter. “La Cobra” Andino, fighting outside of
Argentina for the first time, dropped to 14-4-1
(7), but showed with his performance that at 23
years of age he could have a bright future in the
ring. |
