After a competitive and close bout, the
41-year-old from Monroe, Michigan was declared a
deserved winner by scores of 116-112, 116-112 and
114-114,
McKart improved his impressive professional ledger
to 54-9-1 (32), while Medina, thirteen years
younger at 28, lost for the first time in his last
seven outings and is now a deceiving 17-10-1 (7).
After eight rounds it looked as if the fight could
go either way, as both champion and challenger had
their moments and not much separated the two.
But as McKart attempted to kiss Medina on the
cheek at the end of the eighth, a brief scuffle
ensued as Medina took offense.
The animosity appeared to inspire McKart, who
stepped up the pace and pulled away by winning the
last four rounds for the victory to the delight of
around 4000 enthusiastic spectators. Still looking
fresh after twelve rounds of boxing, McKart seemed
